About Us
Moutain View Volunteer Fire Department
Mountain View Volunteer Fire Department stands as a pillar of safety and service for the residents of the Mountain View community in Catawba County. Established on January 10, 1962, the department was incorporated as a nonprofit organization with the mission of protecting life and property through fire suppression, emergency medical services, and community outreach. Mountain View Fire Department operates from three stations strategically positioned to serve the surrounding area efficiently. Headquarters facility: located at 3571 South NC Highway 127; Station 1 (Eddie Whitener Fire Station): 1820 Zion Church Road; and Station 2 (G. Errol Ward Fire Station): 1540 Henry River Road. Mountain View Volunteer Fire Department has a fleet of 4 fire engines, 2 water tankers, 2 brush trucks, 2 quick response vehicles, 1 UTV, and 1 Command Vehicle. Though modest in size, Mountain View VFD is staffed by a dedicated team of approximately 32 members, including 22 Volunteer Firefighter/EMTs, 9 part time Firefighter/EMT, 2 full time Fire Apparatus Operators, and a full time Fire Chief. This blend of professional and volunteer personnel reflects the department's deep roots in community involvement and its commitment to public service. The department serves the Mountain View community that spans roughly 26.4 square miles and has an approximate population of 10,590 residents. In addition to fire protection, Mountain View VFD provides emergency medical response and participates in mutual aid agreements with neighboring departments. The department's presence is not only vital during emergencies but also in fostering a sense of security and preparedness among the residents it serves. For over six decades, the Mountain View Volunteer Fire Department has exemplified the values of courage, commitment, and community. As the population grows and the demands on emergency services evolve, the department remains steadfast in its mission—ready to respond, protect, and serve.
